Better known as the weird looking green sh*t you see people drinking at the gym. This week ‘Deborah does’ will be walking you through the benefits of adding chlorophyll to your grocery list and you detox programs.

Drinking chlorophyll looks a bit like this: Get to work, fill my water bottle with a small amount of chlorophyll, usually combined with Spirulina – another plant-based product I love.

Work colleagues look over and I hear, “what the heck is that?” No, not chloroform, chlorophyll. Sigh. Honestly, all chlorophyll drinkers can admit it looks like coca-cola or really dark green water, or as some of my colleagues call it “borophyll’ like bore water. Charming.

Often when drinking it you’ll have to explain what it is, why it’s good for you, why you drink it, etc. So, here is an article that can do that for you, Deborah does chlorophyll.

For those who do not know what Chlorophyll is: Chlorophyll is a pigment in plants. It’s what makes them look green (photosynthesis) and it’s been a popular supplement since the 1960’s.

So, does it work? We will take a look at what Dr’s say and the ‘Deborah does’ experience with the green stuff.

What do Dr’s say?

Dr’s say there is no real proof of health benefits, but until last week we were told it was ok to eat processed meats, look at us now.

The assumed benefits that Dr’s suggest are it’s used for bad breath, reducing colostomy odor, constipation, “detoxification,” and wound healing.

Taste: My chlorophyll is spearmint flavoured, but you can get a berry flavour for the more adventurous. I would suggest going spearmint – it can be quite refreshing. As I mentioned earlier I have it in the mornings when I get to work, before coffee time.

When to have it: Whenever you want! I generally combine it with detox/Debtox which is healthy eating and lots of water to flush out the system of any nasties.

Effects: Do not expect any overnight changes, it never works like that. If you couple it with healthy eating and supplements you can cleanse your system. I have tried using chlorophyll daily for 3 weeks now, I cannot solely suggest that chlorophyll is the reason for how great I feel, but every time I used it my system goes through a terrific cleanse (detox). I don’t think I have to spell out what ‘detoxes’ means, when you try it you will know exactly what I am talking about. 😉

Where to get it: Your local supermarket or chemist. Look near the vitamins aisle, in green bottle.

My answer to chlorophyll “Deborah says yes”.

Give it a shot, it’ll cost you 15 bucks for enough to get you through 2 weeks. That is cheaper than a bunch of grapes in the shops at the moment, so you really have nothing to lose. When your family, friends or work colleagues ask you what you are drinking you can hit them up with a URL to this article instead of the 5-minute speech. 😉

You can buy the chlorophyll I use online here.
